John Cantwell’s Love Connie in My Connie Valentine 2

Last weekend Psyko Boys caught yet another installment of the My Connie Valentine show at the Cavern Club in the basement of Casita Del Campo in Los Angeles. Describing this show is nearly impossible, but here goes. First of all, the show is not for sensitive saps that are easily offended. Connie tells a story that aims to make you laugh when you wonder if you should. We laughed so hard that we were literally soar the following morning. From hilariously choreographed dance numbers to the countless obscure pop culture references, don’t blink or you will miss a gut busting little morsel. Backed by Connie Motion, her dancers (Lou Becker, Matthew Krumpe & Moises Josue Michel) kill it with every little sashay and turn.

Smack dab in the middle of the show is “the ultimate cordial cherry center, Scott Thompson as Buddy Cole”. Thompson takes lethal jabs at male hygiene and the church. It was hard to balance which was more funny… the actual material or the reaction of the poor things in the audience who didn’t know what a real joke was. Thompson does not hold back. Nothing is off limits! His humor is refreshing in today’s ‘everything is offensive and if it’s not it, will be soon enough’ social climate.

Then there is the love story that is intertwined between odes to Blondie’s Sunday Girl and Hairspray’s The Madison. A pair of alley critters "Vickie" (Lux LaCroix) & "Tuffy" (Kirby LaBrea) tell the tale of two star crossed kitties who find love, then almost lose it but end up getting it on in a sweet and tender love scene. Their kittens will be up for adoption in about 6 weeks. Unless Thompson gets a hold of them first…

A huge thank you to Mr. Dan and the Cavern Club crew for hosting this amazing show and we hope to see another rendition of a Love Connie show soon!
